About Pamela Brown, MD
Pamela Megathlin Brown, MD is a Family Medicine practitioner with focus on integrative and functional medicine at Carolina Clinic for Health and Wellness where she joined the clinic as director of Family Medicine in July of 2025.
Dr. Brown grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, earned a BS from Mars Hill College, completed premedical studies at NCSU, and graduated from ECU School of Medicine in 1998. She completed residency in Family Medicine at the University of Kentucky in 2002 and worked in Emergency Medicine for over 20 years. She returned to primary care in 2022 as a nursing home director and completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine in 2025 at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. She is currently working toward her Functional Medicine certification from the Institute for Functional Medicine starting in the summer of 2025.
Integrative medicine focuses on the whole person in body, mind, and spirit focusing on the therapeutic relationship between doctor and patient with evidence-based therapies to promote optimal healing and longevity while combining conventional and alternative therapies. Functional medicine is a patient centered systems biology-based approach focusing on root cause of illness rather than the traditional approach of treating symptoms. She focuses on lifestyle and nutrition as medicine with interventions including diet changes, nutritional supplementation, sleep optimization, stress management, detoxification support, and exercise as key areas of focus.
Her special interests include: hormone optimization (both male and female), microbiome testing, diabetes prevention and care, cancer treatment, chronic illness, cardiovascular prevention, and vaccine injuries. She wants help enable patients to understand their own unique physiology and needs to live a long, happy life free of pain and chronic illness. She will also be qualified to perform pilot flight physicals as a AME for the Federal Aviation Administration starting in 3/2026.
Dr. Brown lives in Bethel, NC with her husband Jeff who is an airline pilot. Together they have 5 grown children. She enjoys raising ducks, boating, traveling, painting, cooking Mediterranean cuisine, and exercising.
